A severe shortage of
essential drugs at the Colombo National Hospital has led
to doctors directing over 4,500 patients who visit the
hospital daily to purchase their prescribed drugs from
private sector pharmacies.

Two armed men raided a Pentecostal church in Ampara on
Sunday night and shot dead its pastor. They then shot
his wife seriously injuring her. She was admitted to
the Intensive Care Unit of the Ampara Hospital in a
critical condition.
The
LTTE is in utter mess and has lost its fighting
capabilities, Army Commander Lt. Gen. Sarath Fonseka
said yesterday. "Several area and group leaders among
the fighting cadres have died and there is no one lead
them or give instructions," he said.
PAKISTAN is not a failed state. It is an uncertain state which
can take any course-theocratic, despotic, semi-democratic or
just chaotic. When I visited Karachi and Lahore a few days
ago, I found hardly anyone who was optimist about Pakistan's
future.
At times of calamity as today
what we as a nation should most zealously safeguard is our
younger generation who for no fault of their are likely to be
the target of violence. Hundreds of parents who send their
children to the metropolis daily to attend schools are
naturally kept on tenterhooks until they safely return home.
