"Step up security
to prevent infiltration by LTTE cadres"
Feb 17: RAMANATHAPURAM: The Tamil Nadu
State government should step up security to prevent infiltration
by members of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, Minister of
State of Home Affairs Sriprakash Jaiswal said on Saturday.
Speaking to reporters here after visiting Ramanathaswamy
Temple at Rameswaram, he said the Centre was satisfied with the
law and order situation in the State.
Asked about remarks by Congress leaders, including Union
Minister P. Chidambaram, about the movement of LTTE cadres in
the State, he said he did not want to comment.
He had high regard for Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi and
Mr.Chidambaram. The Chief Minister had promised action against
those supporting the LTTE.
"There has been no noticeable incident in the State during
the present regime. It is better than that of the previous
government," he said.
Asked if the Home Ministry had sought a report on LTTE
activities in the State, he replied in the negative. Mr. Jaiswal
said the Opposition parties, led by the All India Anna Dravida
Munnetra Kazhagam, were making false accusations against the
Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam government.
Asked whether the recent theft of weapons from a police
station was an attempt by naxalites to make their presence felt
in the State, the Minister reiterated that there was absolutely
no naxalite menace in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
Asked about the impact of the intense war in Sri Lanka on
coastal districts of the State, he said the State and the Centre
had taken sufficient steps to enhance security in the region.
