Security forces destroyed another LTTE bunker
line in a pre dawn attack and secured around 600 metres along
the Uilankulam -Andankulam road in Parappakandal, Mannar.
The attack commenced around 5.30 a.m. and forced
the enemy to retreat further into its territory. According to
the Media Centre for National Security, the bunker line had been
covered with a soil bund in order to prevent the mortars fired
by the army from exploding.
The army has been carrying out sporadic attacks
on the enemy lines in
the Mannar area and has regained some of the
territory it had abandoned when taking up duties in the North a
few years ago.
It was reported that that the civilian exodus
from the LTTE controlled areas to the government controlled
areas is on the on the increase. A number of families were
risking their lives and fleeing their homes to escape from the
clutches of the Tigers, as their children were being conscripted
and the elderly people taken for forced labour.
Even some of those have already been with the
organisation have fled from their camps and surrendered to the
nearest security forces camp, the MCNS said.
