WPC reduces bus, mo-bike, three wheeler licence fee

by Franklin R Satyapalan

The Revenue license fee for motor cycles, three wheelers and buses in the Western Province have been reduced with effect from last week, Deputy Motor Commissioner Western Province A. K. R. Alawatte said.

The licence fee for all types of vehicles was increased from January 2008. Three wheel and motor cycle licences were increased from Rs 275 to Rs 500 and bus licences from Rs 80 to Rs 100 per seat

When the Wetsern Provincial Council met last week, the Opposition urged that the fees for the three types of vehicles be reduced. Accordingly, a gazette notification was issued last week announcing the decrease.

However, the North Western Provincial Council, which also increased licence fees, along with the Western Provincial Council did not reduce fees.

Motor Traffic Commissioner Bandula Wijeratne said he could not interfere with decisions taken by

Provincial Councils

The reduction effected in the Western Province will benefit 70,942 three wheelers, 206,269 motor cycles and 6,465 buses, Alawatte said.
