Ruchira Gihan (1 ½ years) is suffering from a hearing defect and cannot speak Dr. A.C.K.S.N. Yasawardena, Consultant ENT Surgeon at the Lady Ridgeway hospital has diagonised the defect as pre-lingual deaf syndrome. He has recommended ‘cochlear implant’ (surgically inserted bionic ear) that stimulates the auditory nerves to hear sounds.

The electronic device has to be used by Ruchira throughout his life. The quotation for the unit by M/s Wickramaarachchi & Company is estimated to cost around Rs. 2,462,000.00.

As Ruchira’s father is a Technical Assistant employed at the Road Development Authority and his mother is a house-wife, they are unable to raise such a big amount. They request the government and the donors to help them financially to purchase the unit for their son.
