A vain search for logic
Inconsistency in State actions is nothing new
but its frequency in recent times seems to be reaching alarming
levels.Oppressive pricing of petroleum fuels and a bankrupt CPC
notwithstanding, fuel-guzzling SUV's (and even a "Hummer" or
two) continue to be imported with gay abandon! Carelessly
discarded plastics are a massive and unsightly health hazard.
Yet, a popular make of soda has abandoned the use of returnable
glass bottles in favour of expensive disposable plastic bottles!
A country beset with a massive alcohol problem, chooses to price
the less objectionable (and perhaps nutritionally superior) beer
exorbitantly, apparently preferring the quicker inebriating and
death-dealing alternative of illicit hooch and unhealthy
spirits.
And this is in a Tropical country where
thirst-quenching would be a plausible excuse for a chilled
beer! Rather than enforce the "right of way" rule at roundabouts
and compelling lane discipline, we instead erect
accident-inducing road separators and the World- record
phenomenon of traffic lights at roundabouts! Apart from this,
traffic policemen are detailed to wave their hands around in
conflict with traffic lights at busy intersections.
frequently disappear at rush hour and during
power failures! Paddy stores were hawked to the private secor
for establishing garment factories and we are now busy building
new ones in their place! Likewise, the CWE went on a grandiose
scheme to rival Supermarkets in opulent displays just before
they closed down. There are sounds that the exercise may repeat
itself under a new name! We aim to become self sufficient in
liquid milk while simultaneously discouraging (correctly) cattle
slaughter and beef consumption! Since one bull calf
(approximately) is born for each heifer, how do we propose to
handle this mismatch? This is only a small and random
selection. This is a poor show for a nation full of Policy
making and Planning Institutions and a plethora of Think Tanks
and similar devices. Some of these are perhaps Acts of Omission
and others Acts of Commission!
