The Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) had last year
attracted the highest ever net inflow of foreign investments in
its history, the CSE said reporting that a net Rs.11.2 billion
had accrued to the country through share trading and investment.
The Exchange reported that there was an increase
in participation of foreign investors who accounted for 39% of
total turnover for 2007. This compared to 32% in 2006 and 29% in
2005.
Total purchases made by foreign investors last
year amounted to Rs.46.8 billion while sales added up to Rs.35.5
billion with the majority of investments made in the
diversified, telecom and banks, finance and insurance sectors.
Previously, the highest net foreign inflow was
Rs.6.2 billion in 2005, the Exchange said.
