Feb 24, CHENNAI: Sri Lankan refugees living
in Tamil Nadu can open bank accounts through the Bank of
Ceylon’s branch here from February 25.
Sri Lanka’s Deputy High Commission in Chennai
and the Organisation for Eelam Refugees Rehabilitation have made
arrangements for the facility, an official release here said.
Through Deputy High Commission in Chennai Sri
Lankan refugees in Tamil Nadu and Sri Lankan Government have
been working closely with each other on many important issues.
Sri Lankan GCE Ordinary Level Competitive
Examination held in Chennai, was one of their recent
initiatives, aimed at assisting the displaced Lankan students.
For the first time, the Lankan Government had conducted the
examination abroad. The new facility for the Lankan refugees to
open and operate a bank account while in Tamil Nadu is another
initiative which would ease the transfer of their savings , when
they return to Sri Lanka.
