A powerful politician of the North Western
Province was behind the illegal filling up of paddy fields at
Nawinna, Kurunegala adjacent to the Kurunegala government
hospital, JVP MP Anura Kumara Dissanayaka told The Island.
He said that project was against the Mahinda
Chinthna. He accused the Agrarian Services and Agriculture
Department of turning a blind eye to the politician’s action as
they were powerless to intervene.
Although the government had spent large sums of
taxpayers’ money on various national food production campaigns
like Api Vavamu Rata Hadamu, some members of the government were
committing acts that militated against the government’s much
advertised campaigns.
It was unfortunate that the political leaders of
the government acted and violated their leader’s policies and
someone should take action to stop them, he said.
