* Journalist Sampath Lakmal
killing FMM challenges CID comment
Commenting on the statement, made by DIG CID H.
W. Prathapasinghe to an English language newspaper on February
17, that journalist Sampath Lakmal, who was murdered in 2006,
was a paid military informant, the Free Media Movement said that
it finds it utterly incredible that it had taken 18 months for
the CID to make this revelation.
Forget it, Prabhakaran Kosovo
is independent. A single province has broken away from an
established state without prior agreement, and it has been
recognised by many of the most powerful countries in the world.
Such a thing has never happened before.
Some people have celebrated it as a major
victory for the right to self-determination, while others have
mourned what they fear is the beginning of the end for national
sovereignty, but everybody seems to agree that it sets a
precedent for secessionist movements elsewhere. Prabhakaran
might well be getting excited.

The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) has stepped
in to support the Government’s efforts to develop the oil
exploration industry by hiring of competent staff who possess
hands-on experience in the oil exploration industry, a bank
official said. It has just advertised for petroleum economists,
geophysicists, petroleum geologists and petroleum risk analysts
for positions in the central bank’s middle management level.
Statements such as 'great challenge' and
'desperately need to win' have been very much part of Sri Lanka
captain Mahela Jayawardene's vocabulary during the Commonwealth
Bank Series. But Sri Lanka failed to put the words into
action once again, and crashed out of the tri-nation series in
the most humiliating fashion, losing their penultimate game of
the first round to India here in Hobart by seven wickets with
106 balls to spare on Tuesday.
