by Percy Kuruneru, Anuradhapura Cor.

Anuradhapura Police Monday night arrested two persons, including a woman, at the Anuradhapura Railway station while they were on board a train heading for Colombo.

Police suspect that the woman was an LTTE suicide cadre and the young man a member of the LTTE intelligence wing. They had boarded the train at Medawachchiya and were residents of Mudaliyarpuram in Settikulam. They had told the Police they were traveling to Colombo to go abroad.

The male was identified as Ramachandran Surendran alias Kulendran aged 18 years. The woman was 25-year-old Polosingham Jeyanthini alias Jeni.

When they were separately questioned by the Police the boy had said that in 2004 he joined the LTTE and had undergone weapons training at the Pullayarweli LTTE camp in Kilinochchi. He had then worked for the LTTE intelligence wing under one Maduraweeran.

Police said despite their lengthy questioning they were unable to extract any facts from the woman and there was no truth in the story they were Colombo bound with the intention of going abroad.

They are being interrogated under detention orders.
