A rare display of civic  consciousness

The culvert near St.Jones College, Kuruppumulla Road, Panadura is under repair these days. It is done by the Provincial Road Development Authority, where work is now temporarily suspended for consolidation. On the morning of March 4 this year, a leak in one of the water pipes developed resulting in a huge quantity of water gushing out. All the passers – by blamed the authorities and went their way despite the continuous loss of drinking water. Not one cared to stop and see what could be done to stop this wastage. This was brought to the notice of the Water Supply Board but nobody came to attend to the repair.

In the meantime a well dressed gentleman on his way to office with his wife in a van observed this leak. He got down from the van and attended to the leak and stopped it temporarily despite him getting wet and soiling his dress.

At the outset he was very reluctant to divulge his identity but with great persuasion he said he is one Parakrama Warnasuriya, a Civil Engineer from Gemunu Mawatha , Panadura.

I think we should appreciate this type of rare gentleman who displays a high sense of civic consciousness.

The Water Supply Board employees attended to this repair later.
