When a case of refilling computer cartridges
under fake trade names came up before Mt. Lavinia Magistrates
Court on March 7, the complainant informed court that they were
prepared to withdraw the complaint. Magistrate Harsha Sethunga
taking into consideration the complainant’s stand, discharged
the accused.
In this case, PC House Unity Plaza, Colombo 04,
was accused of using Epson and Cannon brand names on refilled
cartridges without lawful permission from its manufacturers in
violation of the Intellectual Property Law. Senko Epson
Corporation and Cannon Kaisha are the manufacturers of the
cartridges under respective brand names.
Attorney-at-Law Clinton Dabare instructed by Attorney-at-Law
Himali Ekanayake appeared for the accused.
