Seruwila declared world heritage site

The Government, along with the UNESCO, has taken steps to construct the Seruwila Raja Maha Viharaya Museum, following the announcement that Seruwila has been named a World Heritage Site.

The Bank of Ceylon has stepped in to provide financial assistance for the project, while the Government along with UNESCO has allocated funds over Rs.100 million to develop the site.

An official ceremony was held at the Seruwila Temple on Saturday (08) to declare Seruwila a world heritage site in a gazette notification to initiate work on the Museum.

The Chief Incumbent Ven. Saranakitti Thera delivering the anusasana said the wise had joined President Mahinda Rajapaksa to develop the country while others attempted to cripple progress.

The Thera pointed out that it was the duty and responsibility of all to support the President.
