Thurstan record a memorable win
by Reemus Fernando
After being 77 for 8 at one stage, Thurstan
recovered on the back of a ninth wicket partnership of 97 runs
to post 182 and reduced arch rivals Isipatana to a paltry 95
runs to record a memorable 87 runs victory in the 28th Annual
Limited Over Big Match played for W.A.D. Silva trophy at P. Sara
Stadium on Sunday.
Put into bat, Thurstan were soon in trouble as
Isipatana paceman Lilan Fernando ripped though their top order
to place them wobbling at 77 for 8. But Chamalka Gamage anchored
Thurstan innings scoring an unbeaten 73 runs and compiling a
match saving ninth wicket partnership of 97 runs with Shalaka
Rangajeewa (45) for them to post 182 runs.
In reply, Isipatana were reduced to 95 runs as
16-year-old Jihan Jawed and Chamalka Gamage shared six wickets
between them.
While Chamalka Gamage won the Man of the Match
award, leg spinner Jihan Jawed won the Best Bowler’s award.
Shalaka Rangajeewa was awarded the Best Batsman prize for his 45
runs.
