Kenyans dominate half marathon in
Sao Paulo
SAO PAULO, Brazil (AP) - Kenyan runners
Kiprono Mutai and Eunice Kirwa won the Sao Paulo International
Half Marathon on Sunday.
Mutai won the men's race, completing the
21.1-kilometer (13.1-mile) course along South America's biggest
city in 1 hour, 4 minutes, 2 seconds. He crossed the finish line
eight seconds ahead of Vanderlei Cordeiro de Lima, the Brazilian
runner who was tackled by a protester while leading the 2004
Olympic marathon in Athens and ended up with bronze.
Anoe dos Santos Dias of Brazil was third in
1:05:24. Kirwa won the women's race in 1:15:08, edging Ednah
Mukhwana of Kenya, who finished in 1:16:11.
Maria Zeferina Baldaia of Brazil was third in
1:16:22.
