Sri Lanka has many friends in the British Parliament - Andrew Love

The Council for Business with Britain, affiliated with the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, hosted the All Party - Parliamentary delegation from the United Kingdom recently.

The delegation was led by Andrew Love, Labour MP, (Co-Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Sri Lanka), Andrew George, Lib. Dem. MP (Shadow Spokesman for International Development), Stephen Hammond, Conservative MP (Shadow Minister for Transport and Member of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Sri Lanka) and Dr. Ashok Kumar, Labour MP (Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on India).

The delegates met with officials and members of the Council for Business with Britain, the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka. Speaking at the event, Andrew Love, head of the delegation, noted that the group represents all major UK parties. Their visit was made to foster better bi-lateral foreign and economic relations and to assist in a greater understanding of the difficulties that Sri Lanka is facing at present.

He touched on the topic of the untapped potential in Sri Lanka, which he believed could be unleashed by the bringing together of all Sri Lankans, resulting in the betterment and growth of the country.

"Sri Lanka has many friends in the British Parliament", the MP told the audience. The delegation will take back to Britain the knowledge that they had gained on their trip to Sri Lanka and of its people hoping that this will forge stronger ties with Sri Lanka.
