

Funerals of slain athletic officials today and tomorrow
The funerals of the Olympic marathoner K.A. Karunaratne, national athletic coach Lakshman de Alwis and the other athletic officials who died in Sunday’s terrorist attack at Welivariya will take place with the attendance of national athletes and officials today and tomorrow.
The funeral of the National Coach Lakshman de Alwis will take place at his home town Maharagama. His remains now lie at his home at Maharagama. The cortege will leave his residence at 4 pm today for Godigama Cemetery Maharagama.
The remains of former Olympic marathon runner K.A. Karunaratne now lie at his residence 454/2, Kendaliyedda, Ragama will leave for Tewatte Public Cemetery after religious rituals at 3.pm tomorrow (Wednesday). At his demise Karunaratne was a Warrant Officer of Sri Lanka Army and he will be given military honours.
Along with the two prominent Athletic figures several athletic officials also met tragic deaths.
The technical official Chaminda Ratnayake who was also the PTI of Zahira College Colombo, Sisira Wanigasekara also a technical official died in the bomb blast.
Chaminda Ratnayake, 36, who officiated at the fateful marathon, is survived by his wife and two children (daughter and son). Funeral of Ratnayake will take place at the Jalthara Cemetery tomorrow. The cortege will leave his residence, 441B4, Jalthara, Ranala after religious rituals at 2.30 pm.
Sisira Wanigasekara, 54, who dedicated his life fully to athletics, officiated in almost all athletic events taking place in Sri Lanka. The funeral of Wanigasekara will take place at Ganethenna, Hingula tomorrow.
The funerals of Colonel P.S.S.R. Udayadeera who officiated as the starter of the marathon and R.A. Siripala, who was the Chief Technical officer of the Marathon will take place tomorrow.
