Tigers lead cops to explosives
The arrest of four suspects by the Terrorist Investigation Division in Colombo earlier this week led to the discovery of a large cache of "C-4 explosives, arms and ammunition from a LTTE safehouse in Digana, Police spokesperson DIG N.K. Illangakoon said yesterday.
The TID claimed that the youths were hardcore LTTErs and led a special team of investigators to a house where the 54 kilograms of "C-4 " explosives, five T56 automatic rifles, magazines and a box of T56 ammunition, were found buried in the garden.
The TID sleuths who were unable to ascertain the mission of the suspects were continuing to interrogate them to find the reason behind stashing away of such a large cache of explosives, arms and ammunition by the LTTE in the Central province in Digana a few kilometres away from Kandy in the neighbourhood of the massive Mahaweli Dam. In addition, the SAARC conference is scheduled to be held in June.
