Commenting on the split
within the JVP, SLFP General Secretary and Agricultural Development
Minister Maithripala Sirisena said he believed that neither group would
extend support to the Government. "The Government is keenly awaiting the
developments," he said.UNP National Organiser S. B. Dissanayake said a
small group headed by Wimal Weerawansa might support the Government but
the larger group would remain in the Opposition since they are opposed to
Wimal Weerawansa. Dissanayake said the disagreement had been there since
1971. It was the gene of Marxism all over the world.
