During his days in Parliament, he would twist the meaning of an Opposition member’s query with his timely retorts or his humorous rejoinders and when some member became impossible he would say "No, I will not answer that question," and that was really a ’.
Jeyaraj was thorough in his knowledge of the Standing Orders or the Constitution and even as a lawyer, he knew his subject and did not waver in answering any question. Whenever the Opposition accused the government over the absence of a particular minister, he would say, "I am always here and I will answer your questions."
He was also trilingual and equally at home in English, Sinhala or Tamil but the most remarkable facet of his personality was his fearlessness in facing any problem, standing up to any crisis, without losing his temper. But he was also humble enough to say he did not know something if he did not know it. Then he would say "I will consult the officials or the minister concerned and answer your question."
To the journalists he was always a friendly person and never attempted to teach them their job, like some of the lesser members of the House. Even the members of the Opposition had a high regard for Jeyaraj who always was ready to help them.
The permanent absence of Jeyaraj cannot be filled and both sides of the House will miss him.
