Govt. will not meddle with JVP’s internal affairs – Yapa

The government will not meddle in the internal affairs of the JVP, but it is natural for it to closely observe developments within a party that is a constituent member of the UPFA, Media Minister Anura Priyadharsana Yapa said yesterday.

"The dispute in the JVP is an internal matter, but it is after all a UPFA member and being concerned is only natural", he said in response to a question as to what the governments stance on the developing crisis was, at the weekly cabinet press briefing at the Information Department.

The JVP’s parliamentary group leader Wimal Weerawansa, who is said to have been suspended from the party for indiscipline, lashed out at the JVP leadership on Tuesday, saying there was a witch hunt against him.

Leader of the JVP, Somawansa Amerasinghe while denying that Weerawansa had been suspended pending the forthcoming Eastern Provincial Council Election, accused him of not obeying party decisions and being a law unto himself.

He also alleged that Weerawansa was involved in corrupt deals and enjoys life, despite claims of having sacrificed his youth for the sake of the JVP.
