Minister Jayasuriya, who attended the annual meeting of the Registrars recently, had told them that they were performing a very responsible duty useful to the community and all assistance needed by them to fulfil their duties will be given by the government.

He also said the Registrars will be given training and the law will be amended to accept copies of marriage certificates issued by them as valid documents. A promotion scheme and a pension scheme for them were also being considered and steps will be taken to increase the allowance paid to them after taking up the matter with the relevant authorities the release said.
