A group of five young men who had come visiting their kinsfolk at Deniyaya during the New Year season had gone for a bath in a tributary of Ginganga on Monday (15) and were carried away by strong currents.

Their bodies were not found up to yesterday though Navy divers had searched the tributary and the river, Deniyaya police said.

The five young men were last seen bathing at the Thihawala Ela the tributary of Ginganga and the people around had raised an alarm when they disappeared police said.

A detachment from the Navy camp has been deployed to search for the bodies but the prevailing rainy weather has made their task difficult police said.
