76 families living in abject poverty to get new houses

The plight of 76 Tamil families living in abject poverty with no basic facilities, in Millankanda Estate, Bulathsinghala was highlighted in a report presented by B. M. P. Abeyratne, the Pradeshiya Secretary of Bulathsinghala. The report was handed over to District Secretary of Kalutara S. Happuarachchi

The affected people were employed at Kristhambu farm and had been evacuated from the estate they were residing in.

The report specially stated the conditions of five or six families living in unhygienic line-rooms closer to the Prima animal husbandry farm.

Mr. Rohitha Abeygunawardhana the Minister of Nation Building has asked the Bulathsinghala divisional secretary to take steps to provide suitable accomodation for these families. He has contacted the Anderson estate management to allocate five acres to put up houses for them.

Jayampathi Medis the Director of Planning, Kalutara Secretariat has surveyed the village located in the Bulathsinghala Pradeshiya Secretariat division to expedite the construction of houses for the hapless familes.
