The writ application filed by the twenty three JVP members of the Western Provincial Council is to be supported in the Court of Appeal on May 2, 2008.
The petitioners are requesting the Court to compel the administration of the Western Province to refrain from recognizing the posts of Leader of the Opposition of the Western Provincial Council, the Chief Opposition Whip, Leader of the House and the Chief Government Whip of the same Provincial Council.
"The Provincial Councils Act did not prescribe these posts and the benefits enjoyed by the holders thereof. Hence the Court could annul these posts," the petition said.
The first respondent is the Governor of the Western Province.
The petition was yesterday called before Justice Chandra Ekanayake (President) and Justice Anil Gooneratne and fixed for support on May 2.
