JVP to stand against communalism at EPC polls

Due to sheer greed and crazy for power some political parties are trying to promote communal disturbances and are promoting separatism at the forthcoming Eastern Provincial Council elections especially in the Kalmunai, Pottuvil and Samanthurai electorates, the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna claimed yesterday

JVP Ampara District electoral leader Krishantha Priyadarshana said their priority number one was to defeat contestants trying to win seats by promoting communalism. "We would not give in to such a conspiracy."

He said they had decided to conduct 3,000 domestic level discussions in Kalmunai, Pottuvil and Samanthurai. Apart from that they would also conduct house to house campaigns and distribute leaflets.

A large proportion of the voters in these areas are Muslims and Tamils and they speak only Tamil, thus, they were target groups of certain political parties with vested interests. "Their election campaign is based on ethnicity and communalism, he said.

The JVP would conduct the majority of its programmes and campaigns in Tamil, he said.
