KANDY - At least eighty casualties of violence and traffic accidents admitted to Kandy and Peradeniya General Hospitals during five days of the Sinhala and Hindu New Year season, ending Wednesday (16).
At least 45 injured were admitted to Kandy General Hospital during the season. An equal number of causalities were admitted to Peradeniya General (Teaching) Hospital during the weekend.
The highest number of casualties were treated at the Peradeniya General Hospital on Sunday (13) since accident cases are not treated at the Kandy General Hospital, on Sunday.
There have been a large number of cases of assaults and attacks with clubs and weapons.
Heavy consumption of alcohol has led to a large number of the squabbles that ended in bloodshed, police said.
