To Be or Not To Be……

The just concluded double tours of Australia and West Indies gave us much hilarity as heart burn with the expert analysis of some of our top players who appear to have been given the license to express themselves in print. They even predicted that they would be creating history by beating both Australia and West Indies at home and seem to have found a means of absolving themselves from a dismal veneer of two lackluster outings with grandiose sayings such as "this is not the end of the road" and then plunging straight away into another loss. I am not too sure if it is wise to allow current players to comment on ongoing tours in which they themselves participate. It appears as if they are trying to prolong the tenure of the stalwarts of the recent past and display a total disability in their inability to "read" the game with any depth. Again, it could lead to biased reporting depending on how well you are disposed towards each individual.

In days gone by I do not think one could report on an on going tour as playing members, unless you were an accredited reporter by profession, and that too, if I am not mistaken, with permission sought and granted. Bradman himself was fined pounds fifty sterling for writing an article on his first tour of England in 1930. I am not too sure if the rules have been changed since, for it could lead to biased reporting, depending on how well disposed you are to those reported.
