Major General U. B. Lawrence Fernando has been appointed the Overall operations commander of the Central Province by President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The appointment is effective from Sunday 20.
This appointment is in addition to the post of the Commandent of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force which Major General Lawrence Fernando is now holding.
Major General Fernando after assuming duties of as the Overall Operations Commander (OOC) paid his homage to the Scared Tooth Relic and called on the prelates of Malwatte and Asgiriya.
He also called on the Governor Central Tikiri Kobbekaduwa and Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayake in Kandy yesterday (20).
