Colombo Vogue Lifestyles Weekend

The Rotary Club of Colombo Regency in association with Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau is organizing the Colombo Vogue Lifestyles Weekend a spectacular lifestyles weekend event to be held from 30th May to 1st June 2008 at Hotel Galadari.

The programme opens with a New Age Music Concert titled Mantra on 30th May followed by two days of a fashion blitz under the banner of Colombo Fashion Statement with Indian designers showcasing their creations on May 31 and Europeans designers sashaying their designs on May1st . Simultaneously there will be a Flower Show titled ‘Tropical Splendour’ on the mornings of 31st May and 1st June.

Colombo Fashion Statement has been tipped as a unique expose of the latest designs for 2008 by renowned Indian and European designers. The Indian designers are Satya Paul, Shobaa De and Ashima-Leena (duo), whilst the European designers are Lecoanet Hemant (brand LH), Nathalie Ozier & Noemie Dieudonne from France.

The fashion shows will feature the reigning Miss India for Miss World, Miss India for Miss Earth, Miss Sri Lanka, Miss Israel & about three reigning Beauty Queens from overseas (Sweden, Italy, Belgium, Switzerland, Russia, China, Denmark ) modeling on the runway, a rare possibility along with 10 models from India and 8 models from Sri Lanka.

The Rotary Club of Colombo Regency organizing this mega event received its charter from Rotary International on the 24th of May 2002 with a vision to strengthen the Rotary movement in Sri Lanka.

Mantra the musical extravangza on the first day is fronted by renowned New Age music Flutist Bikram Singh, from the group Naadbrahma and India’s Environment Band, in Concert with the pearls of the Indian Ocean Pradeep Ratnayake, Harsha Markalanda, Alston Joachim, Ravibandu Vidyapati, Chandralal Amarakoon, Jananatha Warakagoda, Rakitha with five member ensemble and fusion drums. A concert of this quality has not been seen in Colombo for a long time and will run for around two hours at Hotel Galadari on 30th May followed by dinner.

During Bikram Singh’s visit an album will be recorded together with the Sri Lankan musicians on the theme ‘Preserve Planet Earth’. The proceeds from the sale of the album will go towards Rotary Sri Lanka Green Cover (planting and nurturing 10 million trees in Sri Lanka)

Shi-en Ikebana & Floral Society of Sri Lanka, the leading promoters of Floral Art and Design are putting together a floral show ‘Tropical Splendour’ for the benefit of all those looking for something spectacular on 31st May and 01st June from 10 am to 6 pm at Hotel Galadari. After each of the shows there would be cocktails, dinner and after-party.

The proceeds of this show will be utilized to plant and nurture trees in rural Sri Lanka as part of Rotary’s 10 million trees project, Rotary (Sri Lanka) Green Cover. This project is being organized by the Rotary Club of Colombo Regency, Rotary Club of Kandy and Sri Lanka Tourism and will be implemented in association with all Rotary Clubs in Sri Lanka. Participation from NGO’s and Organizations interested in this project is welcome.

Tourism Earth Lung Initiative.

This project was symbolically launched on 29th November 2007 at Asgiriya Cricket Stadium with the first trees being planted by the Captains and Vice Captains of the English and Sri Lankan cricket teams. This project is scheduled to be completed within a period of 05 years.

Platinum Sponsor Brandix is Sri Lanka’s largest apparel exporter and the pioneer of the concept of ‘Inspired Solutions ‘ in the local apparel industry. As part of its support for this event, Brandix will be responsible for one segment of the fashion show, at which it showcase an exclusive design collection produced by its own designers. The choreographer for the Indian segment of Colombo Fashion Statement on 31st May is Liza Varma from India who has choreographed over 1500 shows.

The other segments on 01st June would be choreographed by Brian Kerkoven.

The Event Manager is Roshan Wijeratne , Event Productions ( Pvt ) Ltd.

An experienced Fashion Photographer, Rahul Dutta, from Femina India would be the Fashion Photographer for Colombo Fashion Statement.

The show will be covered by journalists from India, Middle East and Europe. The overseas media already confirmed are Ahlaan, Asian Leaders – London (Guardian Group), TeleLife – Sony, Khaleej Times, Young Times, the Designer Mode, Gulf News / Emirates Today, Femina India. ..
