Divaina Editor seeks your help

Merril Perera, the Editor of Daily Divaina, one of the most popular, widely read Sinhala newspapers in Sri Lanka, has been suffering from Lumbar Spine HNPs for more than two years.

As the pain became unbearable, he underwent surgery in Colombo in November, 2007 but though the pain in the calf muscles eased to some extent the pain in the things persists. This condition is extremely painful and has made life miserable for him.

In spite of severe pain, he continues to work as there is no other source of income to support his livelihood.

As doctors in Sri Lanka recommended Lumbar Spine HNPs surgery overseas, an estimate from Mt. Elizabeth and Gleneagles Medical Centre, Singapore, was sought.

The estimated cost for the Advanced Technology Surgery Treatment (7-10 days), as submitted by Dr. Prem Pillay, Consultant Neurosurgeon of from Mt. Elizabeth and Gleneagles Medical Centre, Singapore, is US$ 23,000 – 35,000. (Copy of estimate annexed herewith)

As Mr. Perera is dependent on his monthly remuneration and has no other income, he appeals for financial assistance from donors, well wishers and concerned organizations to raise the money required for this surgery.
