The Commissioner of Elections yesterday gave an undertaking to the Court of Appeal that he would ensure that voters will provide valid identity documents at the forthcoming Provincial Council poll, in the Eastern Province.

In view of this undertaking the People's Alliance for a Free and Fair Elections (PAFFREL) withdrew the Writ Application it had filed.

J. C. Weliamuna appeared with Shantha Jayawardene instructed by Lilanthi de Silva for the petitioner.

Senior State Counsel, Nerin Pulle appeared for the Elections Commissioner.
