

Sixty seven LTTE cadres were killed and 37 injured during the 24 hours after Wednesday morning in confrontations with the troops in Mannar, Welioya, Vavuniya, Jaffna and Dutuwewa.
Of the 67 killed, 61 were from the Mannar theatre and of the injured Tiger cadres 21 of them were from the same location.
One Tiger cadre was killed in clashes with the troops in Jaffna.
In Elithimadu in Mannar troops attacked the Tiger bunker lines on three different occasions and it was believed that four LTTE cadres were killed or injured, the Media Centre for National Security said. In Weppankulam, in Mannar troops on a search operation recovered 11 Anti Personnel Mines (APM), two Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) and two claymore mines.
In another search operation in Illanthiban in Mannar troops recovered one IED and a 81 mm mortar bomb set to explode.
In Janakapura in Welioya in three different search operations, 135 APM’s and one IED were recovered.
Two civilians from Wattakachchci in Kilinochchi, who fled the LTTE, surrendered to the Pallimunai Naval Detachment. After the Navy attended to the welfare of the two men they were handed over to a Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp.
The Navy recovered 815 gelgnite sticks from a hideout in Palavi in Puttalam, close to the Kalpitiya Naval Detachment. Fifteen persons have been arrested and handed over to Puttalam police in this connection. A motorcycle and a van were taken in to custody.
