More Russian schols for the needy

The Russian government will offer more scholarships to Sri Lanka’s needy. A team of academics of People’s Friendship University (Patrice Lumumba University) led by Vice Rector Prof. Denisenko and Prof. Sokolov (head of the international affairs of the university) held a meeting with Higher Education Minister Prof. Wiswa Warnapala and conveyed the message the, Higher Education Ministry said.

Prof. Warnapala told The Island that Russian academics who held several meetings with him had expressed willingness to offer more scholarships to Sri Lankan students in various spheres of education.

He said that the Russian Government was extremely helpful to other nations educationally and economically. The magnanimous gesture of the Russian government to offer scholarships to needy Sri Lankan students would be of great educational significance. In addition to educational assistance the Russian government had laid a special emphasis to support developing countries economically.

Prof. Denisenko said that a large number of students who had passed out from Russian Universities had found suitable employment in Sri Lanka and abroad as they could compete internationally. Sri Lankan students with Russian degrees had excelled in various fields, especially in medicine and emgineering.
