The President has appointed K A D George Michael, Addl.Secretary (tourism), a senior member of the Sri Lanka Administrative Service (SLAS) as Secretary, Ministry of Tourism with effect from 5th May 2008.

He has obtained the BA Degree from the University of Sri Jayawardenapura and Masters in Public Administration from the Post Graduate Institute of the same University.

He holds a Diploma in English from the Aquinas University college, a certificate in Public Administration from the Sri Lanka Institute of Development Administration (SLIDA) and a Certificate in Journalism from the Open University. He has written more than 20 articles in Management and Tourism for both Sinhala & English News papers & popular magazines. Having entered in to SLAS he has served in different capacities in the Housing Department, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Public Administration and as a Consultant in SLIDA before assuming office as Senior Assistant Secretary (Tourism) in the Ministry of Tourism in the year 1998. George Michael was promoted as Additional Secretary( Tourism) in the Ministry of Tourism in 2002 and functioned as Actg.Secretary since December last year. He was very much instrumental in setting up the new Institutional structures under the Ministry ,when the New Tourism Act 38 of 2005 was promulgated by Milinda Moragoda, Tourism Minister ,October last year.
