

The United Nations Organisation’s Economic and Social Affairs Department will offer a series of courses to Sri Lankan undergraduates on world affairs, public governance, overseas development assistance and human rights. The UNO Department of Economic and Social Affairs Chief Dr. Adil Khan has met Higher Education Minister Prof. Wiswa Warnapala to make arrangements to commence the program, Higher Education Ministry sources said yesterday.
Prof. Warnapala told The Island that the UNO Department of Economic and Social Affairs had offered important courses for Sri Lankan undergraduates who would be able to enhance their knowledge on world affairs, public governance and overseas development.
He said that Dr. Khan of the United Nations Department of Economic Affairs had been entrusted with the responsibility of introducing South Asian Regional Courses on Global Governance and South Asian Development- The UN Perspective in Sri Lanka’s universities.
Dr. Khan said that the undergraduates would enhance their knowledge on international agreements and forces which had implications on national development initiatives, policy tools and strategies relevant for shaping national governance and policy strategies. Country analysis of national development trends and orientation to required action would also be included in the courses.
