Extension of the State of Emergency for one more month was passed by Parliament yesterday (6) with 76 voting for the motion and 17 voting against.
The government, JVP members including the Wimal Weerawansa group and Nandana Gunatilaka, opposition member Ven Uduwe Dhammaloka Thera and Wijedasa Rajapaksa voted for the motion while the two UNP members present at the time of the vote abstained. The Tamil National Alliance voted against the motion.
