Fab Foods (Pvt.) Ltd., a subsidiary of ACL Group of Companies, won the Gold Medal for the 'free style wedding cake', at the prestigious International Food and Hospitality Culinary Challenge Exhibition 2008, Asia's largest culinary competition event, held at Singapore recently.

The innovative wedding cake, which struck gold, was created by Fab's Executive Pastry Chef Jerome A. Corea.

In addition, two silver medals and a bronze were also clinched by The Fab chefs, the company's Executive Director, Mrs. Roshi Madanayake Perera told a press conference in Colombo last week.

The Fab Executive Chef also won two silver medals at this competition in which 26 countries from Asia, Europe as well as the USA had competed, she said.

"One of our chefs, Lilian Priyashantha, clinched a bronze medal."

It was a landmark achievement for The Fab winning team who bagged four medals, including a gold by competing with such developed nations as the USA, Japan, China and Malaysia, Ms. Perera stressed.

"They entered an international competition for the first time and winning the gold and three other medals in all four competitions is a record which is highly commendable", she noted.

She said she is very proud of the achievement of the Executive Chef and other chefs of The Fab who had put Sri Lanka on the world's catering map, by taking part in this prestigious international competition and exhibition.

Upali Madanayake, Chairman ACL Group of Companies, Mrs. Chandra Madanayake, Managing Director Fab Foods (Pvt) Ltd., and Hemantha Perera, Managing Director of Kelani Cables PLC were also present at the news conference.
