Senior advisor to the President, MP Basil Rajapaksa said that now the three major communities in the country the Sinhalese, Tamils and Muslims have given a clear majority to the UPFA and thereby a clear message to the people of the country and the international community they must support to bring peace by ending the problem and not leave the finding of a solution to the next generation.
"At the same time I would wish to make a special appeal to the representatives of the people who have won it is their responsibility now to act according to the Mahinda Chinthanaya and the Nagenahira Navodaya programmes there are many plans and much money for them to implement it meaningfully for development to reach the people at the very grass root level," he said.
"President Mahinda Rajapasa the Central government and I are willing to extend our fullest support at all times when and where needed despite the trio of Ranil, Hakeem and Prabha having signed a MOU for the Chairman ,General Secretary and Leader of the SLMC to resign their seats and take up the challenge with a super team of candidates unlike ours and TNA MP Mavai to call upon the Tamil people to defeat the government, they were rejected by the people which proves the faith the three major communities have placed on president Rajapaksa.
This victory gave a message to the people of the Northern Province that before long they would also be in control of the development of their provinces as well.
The party gave me an opportunity to look into the handing of the nominations and my task has been completed successfully and on Presidents return from London he and party would decide on the appointment of a suitable Chief Minister who enjoys the support of the majority in accordance with the constitution.
The government would implement the 13th Amendment to the constitution as proposed by the APRC and take forward as stated clearly in the Mahinda Chinthanaya proposals demilitarization, democratization and Development of the North and the East. Those belonging to Sinhalese, Tamil and Muslim communities who have been elected are the real representatives of the People and nobody not even the LTTE that claimed to be the sole representative of the Tamil people can now have the right to make that claim as they have been clearly rejected by the people.
We must salute the Valiant sacrifices made by the security Forces which paved the way for the liberation of the Eastern Province without whose support all of these developments towards democratization would not have materialized.
Ranil Wickremesinghe, who secured the highest number of votes from the Eastern Province during the presidential election and the TNA which enjoyed the support of the majority of Tamil people in the Province were rejected by the people.
Now that the President has done part of his duty to restore democracy it is now up to the people of the country, opposition as well as the international community to come forward to help solve this problem without delay to develop the province and bring prosperity to the people.
