Lankan gets death sentence in Kuwait for heroin possession

A Sri Lankan national, working in Kuwait, was sentenced to death by hanging, by a Kuwaiti Court, for being in possession of 13.5 Kgs of heroin, reports from Kuwait said yesterday.

According to the current street value the haul of heroin was worth over ten million Sri Lankan rupees, Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment sources said.

They said they were trying to get all the details on the Sri Lankan National and had made an appeal against the death penalty, but all details on the case and his identity have not been received as yet.

Meanwhile, in another drug detection case in Kuwait, another Sri Lankan national, flying from Saudi Arabia, was detected by the police trying to smuggle 15,000 pills also containing drugs.
