

IGP quits on July 1
Inspector General of Police Victor Perera yesterday told The Island that he had informed the Government he would retire from service with effect from July 1 at age of 60.
He said he had served the Police Department for long period during which he had the satisfaction of serving the public well. He was also satisfied with the conditions of service in the police department.
The next in seniority in the Police Department in Deputy Inspector of Police Jayantha Wickramaratne and he will succeed Victor Perera, official sources said.
