Rapist’s marriage offer rejected

May 28: Kuwait : A senior official in the Ministry of Interior has criticized the director of the Sulaibikhat Security Department and head of the police station of the area for failing to refer the officer, who reportedly kidnapped a Sri Lankan maid and raped her for four days in an apartment in Shaab, to the Public Prosecution, reports Al-Qabas daily.

The leader added, during interrogation the officer admitted to charge, and instead of sending him to the Public Prosecution he was instead sent to the Palace of Justice to marry the woman.

The Palace of Justice reportedly turned down the request for three reasons — first he should seek permission from his department, second the permission should be approved by the Ministry of Interior and third the Sri Lankan Embassy must give the ‘no objection certificate’.

According to a security source two MPs — one of them a former MP — reportedly intervened to solve the problem by convincing the parents to drop the case on condition the officer will marry her.

The daily did not say if the parents are in Kuwait or in Sri Lanka. (ArabTimes)
