The United Nations World Food Programme has, in response to the urgent request made by the Ministry of Disaster Management and Human Rights, stepped into support 124,244 people affected by the recent floods with 202 tons of mixed food commodities of emergency aid.
WFP had dispatched 112 tons of food for a one-week ration of rice, pulses and vegetable oil to 60,000 people in Kalutara and Galle, and 90 tons of food for a five-day ration to 64,244 people in Ratnapura and Gampaha.
The WFP said its assistance was to complement the Government’s relief efforts and would be limited to the worst affected divisions in Gampaha, Ratnapura, Kalutara and Galle for 5-7 days.
