      Editorial:Cane teachers and  flog the minister
The Sea Tigers yesterday lost a boat and four cadres including a leader in an attack on an isolated navy detachment at Irukkalampiddy, Mannar where they killed three navy personnel and wounded two.
Navy headquarters said the raiders later withdrew as reinforcements had converged on the scene of the confrontation, situated about seven kilometres north-west of Mannar town.

Protecting the future
The Government declared yesterday and today as holidays for government schools in view of a sick note campaign by teachers.
