Joy at Ninety

It was indeed a joyous event and the rightful recognition and adoration for a life of dedication when family and friends gathered at Dr. Stella De Silva's to join her birthday celebrations. It is not many people who have worked with such devotion for the good of humanity and there was a feeling of exhilaration and thanks to whoever it may be, for granting her a long life well spent.

There were the many members of her family even though she never was married, as she had several siblings. To greet her guest in Stella was attired in a Korean style top in a brocade. The body of the style was in black with sprays of orange flowers on it with a standup collar and sleeves in a print in ochre and brown on white. There was Manouri Muttetuwegama who personified the art of growing old with grace and charm in a red Burmese sarong and a red top. Marlene Abeywardene had her taupe toned jacket worked in beads she wore with a skirt in the same colour. A bottle green saree bordered in gold with a pallu in gold was Rebecca Wickremaratne’s choice to wear with a green blouse. Also in saree was Daya de Silva who is the wife of one of Stella's nephews. Her saree was in the traditional style in a onion skin pink with a-border and pallu in a gold weave. With her was Shalini Amerasinghe in smart black embroidered at the neckline in gold sequins, she wore with a pair of stud earrings and a gold sling handbag. Saree was the choice of Chitra Fernando. The printed silk was in a kaleiedescope of rainbow hues, she wore with a blue blouse and jade and diamond jewellery. The red kurta top Suthami Ratnavale wore was worked in gold and silver she teamed with small pendulem earrings. Her trousers were in a deeper shade of red.

The invitees were served a five star dinner and the guests were looked after with genuine care by many members of the family.
