

Dr. Jayalath Jayawardena, MP, wants Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayaka to summon the House privileges committee immediately to discuss safety and security of all opposition MPs.
The UNP MP yesterday told The Sunday Island, that the recent Court of Appeal directive that he should be given a back-up vehicle, two police drivers and communication equipment as he faced threat on his life had highlighted the urgent need to review security.
The Prime Minister as Chairman of the privileges committee shouldn’t turned a blind eye to the Court of Appeal directive, Jayawardena said.
The Gampaha District MP sought court intervention after the government withdrew his security on the basis Dr. Jayawardena’d life wasn’t in danger, sources said. (SF)
