

Ranaviru Day was commemorated in Sri Lankan Buddhist temples across Britain last Saturday.
The chief incumbent of Scotland Buddhist Vihara, Ven. Kamburawala Sri Rewatha thera said that the Vihara Ranaviru Fund had collected more than 2,000 Sterling Pounds to provide Residual Limb Socks to Sri Lankan war heroes.
"With the support of everyone, including our devotees, we purchased more than 150 Gel Socks, which will be handed over to Brigadier Dr. Sriyani Warusawitharana, Head of the Army Rehabilitation Unit in Sri Lanka in due course", he said.
The official presentation will be made by Mr. and Mrs. Dhammika Siripala.
Ven. Rewatha Thero conducted the commemoration and blessing ceremony on Ranaviru Day with the participation of Ven. Seenigama Wimananda thera.
At another commemoration ceremony, Head of Saddhathissa Buddhist Centre in Kingsbury, Ven. Galayaye Piyadassi thera said: "It was our motherland Sri Lanka which gave us free education unlike many other countries in the world, helping the Sri Lankan diaspora in the West to prosper in life. We should not forget this".
"We owe so much to Sri Lanka and our brothers and sisters living there, especially the soldiers who lay down their lives to protect the nation in this hour of crisis", he stressed.
The prelate also appealed to the expatriate community to cut down on their lavish parties and donate part of the money to their motherland.
He also emphasized that the primary duty of all expatriates is to look after the disabled soldiers and the children of the fallen heroes.
"These valiant men paid the supreme sacrifice in the battle against terrorists to preserve the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Sri Lanka", Ven. Piyadassi thera underscored. "It is our bounden duty to look after their families".
Military Counsellor of the Sri Lankan High Commission in London, Brigadier Prasad Samarasinghe was also among those who were present.
