Turnover slumps and indices marginally down on CSE

The Colombo bourse saw turnover slump to Rs.107.3 million from the previous day’s Rs.161 million and closed marginally down with the All Share Price Index losing 4.54 points (0.19%) and the Milanka 4.97 points (0.16%) with the major trades being on East West and Ceylinco Insurance.

"It was a dull day with East West and Ceylinco accounting for Rs.45 million of the total turnover," Prashan Fernando of DFCC Stockbrokers said. "After that there was Kelani Tyres generating Rs.4.9 million."

The East West trades of nearly 1.6 million shares were done between Rs.14.50 and Rs.15. The counter gained 50 cents to close at Rs.15 generating Rs.23.4 million turnover.

Ceylinco traded between a low of Rs.220 and a high of Rs.225 with nearly 0.1 million shares done during the day gaining Rs.5 to close at Rs.225 generating Rs.21.7 million turnover.

Kelani Tyres traded between Rs.62 and Rs.67 gaining Rs.150 to close at Rs.66 on 73,800 shares that were done.

Fernando said that the large parcels of East West traded yesterday at a price of Rs.14.75 while the Ceylinco trades included a crossing of 50,000 shares at a price of Rs.225.

Coco Lanka announced that its holding company had sold 7.5% of the company to Lanka Ventures at a price of Rs.25 per share on Monday while Lanka Tiles announced a final dividend of Rs.2.62 per share.
