Zimbabwe ruling party militants disrupt planned opposition rally

HARARE, Zimbabwe (AP) - Hundreds of militant ruling party supporters have occupied the site of the opposition’s main pre-election rally.

Armed youths from the ruling ZANU-PF are mounting road blocks to prevent opposition supporters from reaching Harare’s show grounds. The youths are arriving by the busload.

Opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai has planned his main rally at the show grounds before next week’s runoff against President Robert Mugabe. Tsvangirai won the first round election but not by an absolute majority.

It is unclear whether Tsvangirai will hold Sunday’s rally despite the threat of violence at the show grounds. More than 60 people have died in pre-election violence. Most of them have been opposition
